Jeremy Scholtz founded Apple Tool & Gas to cater to Grabouw fruit farmers. He initiated the business by operating out of the back of his car, delivering supplies to farmers in the Grabouw and Elgin areas.

Subsequently, Mr. Green acquired the business from Jeremy. With his welding expertise, Mr. Green expanded the welding division.

In 2006, Maarten de Jong purchased the business from Mr. Green. Prior to this, Mr. de Jong had a wealth of knowledge in woodwork from his previous venture, de Jong Timber Products (Pty) Ltd.

Mr. de Jong proceeded to broaden the offerings in power tools and woodwork. He introduced power tool repair services, recognizing a market need, and bolstered the nuts and bolts section, also identifying an opportunity.

During his tenure, the company relocated to its current, larger premises, resulting in increased floor space and an expanded product range.

Sadly, Mr. de Jong passed away at the end of August 2014, but his family has continued to uphold his legacy.
